Job Description

A Direct Support Professional provides support, training, and supervision to adults with Autism and/or social/cognitive disabilities. DSP’s provide focused support to ensure each person can achieve the goals established in their Individual Support Plan.

Responsibilities include assisting participants with social, daily living, and community skills necessary to live, work, and engage safely in the community.

DSPs are expected to demonstrate a desire to create lasting positive impacts on people's lives. DSPs are expected to act as encouraging coaches, helping others to take steps towards or achieve their goals.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide specific support and interventions to assist participants in developing social and cultural interaction skills with their peer group, work environment, family, and other social groups
  • Provide safe environment for each participant
  • Assist individuals in the participation of recreational, social, and community activities based on their preferences and Individual Support Plans (ISP)
  • Maintain client confidentiality based on HIPAA regulations
  • Participate and guide during community outings with assigned clients
  • Implement behavioral intervention/strategies, including providing support to other team members
  • Assist clients entering and exiting transportation services
  • Complete daily progress notes or behavior logs as necessary and directed
  • Complete all required mandated trainings as directed, including state regulated training and additional training from Autism Cares Foundation
  • Communicate professionally and informatively with all team members
  • Participate in all required meetings, including participating in ISP meetings
  • Work all assigned schedules

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or higher secondary degree
  • Experience keeping composure in stressful situations
  • Experience observing and interpreting soft skills
  • Valid driver’s license

Communication:

  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral, able to articulate clearly and concisely.
  • Interpersonal skills and teamwork

Organizational Skills:

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while prioritizing
  • Demonstrate the highest level of ethics and integrity
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to follow up and through on commitments and timelines
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and email

Other Requirements:

  • Current security clearances (PA State Police Criminal Record Check, a PA Child Abuse History Clearance, and an FBI Criminal History Background Check)
  • Must have minimum two Covid-19 vaccines
  • Physical and negative TB test

Working Conditions:

Normal, no adverse or hazardous conditions. Will require evenings and occasional weekend hours.

Physical Environment:

-Manual Dexterity to perform responsibilities

-Ability to perform sedentary work
