Job Description

The Life Skills Professional assists participants while directly collaborating with others to provide superior service levels. You are assigned/delegated responsibilities by the Program Coordinator and Specialist based on each participant’s level of need and their person-centered ISP goals.  Duties support tasks that allow the Program Coordinator/Specialist to provide adaptive instructional supports and curriculum that promote individual growth for the participant and members of the program which include social and group environments in both facility and community.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide specific supports and apply techniques to assist participants in developing social and cultural interaction skills with their peer group, work environment, family, and other social groups while providing continuous supervision over assigned participant(s) based on their preferences and Individual Support Plan (ISP)
  • Participate and guide participants throughout community outings
  • Implement behavioral intervention/strategies, including providing support to other team members to support the safety of all parties
  • Assist clients entering and exiting transportation services
  • Clean and sanitize necessary facility areas
  • Provide appropriate staffing ratios as directed by ODP regulations and the individuals’ ISPs
  • Complete daily progress notes and/or behavior logs as necessary and directed
  • Complete and all required mandated trainings as directed, including state/county regulated training and additional training with Autism Cares Foundation
  • Communicate professionally and informatively with all team members and caregivers
  • Attend and actively engage in all required meetings, including participating in ISP meetings or Critical Review meetings at the request of the Program Specialist
  • Record and report in our data system appropriate information regarding behavioral and/or health information and services provided to participants
  • Assist participants to use instructional materials and equipment
  • Utilize behavioral interventions which may include but are not limited to methods applied behavioral analysis (ABA) and other evidence-based methods to decrease challenging behaviors and teach skills
  • Implement modifications, accommodations, and behavioral plans as outlined in participants ISPs
  • Provide verbal and/or written feedback of observations and progress to the Program Specialist
  • Adapt activities, assignments and/or materials as directed by the Program Coordinator/Specialist to support participants to increase engagement and peer interaction throughout daily activities, and implement Individualized Support Plan (ISP) goals and objectives
  • Execute the CPS Program Quality Management Program and participants ISP as directed by the Program Specialist/Coordinator
  • Support with emotional or behavioral concerns and assists in developing appropriate social skills with the understanding difference of developmental age and chronological age along with processing difference associated with ASD/IDD and other concurrent diagnoses.
  • Assist in the management and shaping of client behavioral techniques and/or positive reinforcement strategies
  • Monitor and assist participants in all facility and community settings
  • Assist participants with daily living skills, which include, but are not limited to, activities of daily living, along with all aspects of toileting, if outlined in their ISP
  • Provide and maintain a positive and safe environment for each participant and staff
  • Act as a role model by guiding a participant in developing positive, appropriate interpersonal relationships with peers and other people/adults within their community
  • Work cooperatively with others, including all staff, supervisors, co-workers, administrators, people served, community professionals, customers, vendors, and the public
  • Follow all HIPAA statutes to protect client's rights, anonymity and confidentiality in all interactions
  • Work all assigned schedules and shifts unless otherwise approved

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Education/Experience:

High school diploma and 3 years’ experience working with individual with ASD/ID/Disabilities, associate degree in behavioral, social work or related field and 1 year experience or higher secondary degree

Experience keeping composure in stressful situations

Experience observing and interpreting soft skills

Valid driver’s license

Communication:

Excellent communication skills, written and oral, able to articulate clearly and concisely.

Interpersonal skills and teamwork

Organizational Skills:

Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while prioritizing and meeting timelines

Demonstrate the highest level of ethics and integrity

Detail oriented

Ability to follow up and through on commitments and timelines

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and email

Other Requirements:

Current security clearances (PA State Police Criminal Record Check, a PA Child Abuse History Clearance, and an FBI Criminal History Background Check)

Must have minimum two Covid-19 vaccines

Physical and negative TB Test

Willingness and ability to transport residents in company vehicles

 

Working Conditions:

Normal, no adverse or hazardous conditions, office environment, 20-28/32.5-40 hours a week, will require evenings and occasional weekends

 

Physical Environment:

- Frequent interaction with individuals with disabilities, including physical assistance, potential exposure to challenging behaviors, and occasional lifting or supporting individuals.
